Work starts on Ashbourne's replacement bandstand

Our contractors are starting work today on the replacement bandstand in Ashbourne Memorial Gardens, with completion expected in June.

Plans prepared by consultants Faithful & Gould, picture below, are illustrative only - final colours have yet to be finalised.

But we can confirm that the bandstand design will feature panels with poppies signifying its position in a memorial park, an events socket, the option of step-free access, multi coloured LED lighting and a CCTV camera linked into the District Council’s existing network.

To minimise vehicle movements through the memorial gates during the work, skips for the scheme will be located in the Fishpond Meadow overspill car park and materials will be transferred to site by a small dumper truck.

The area around the bandstand plinth has been secured with Heras fencing and a pedestrian walkway will be maintained to the lower edge of the plinth. A small additional fenced compound is required at the start of the project on the former shelter base at the top of the gardens but this will be removed once the foundation works are completed.

The final design of railings, hand rails and colours is still being refined in ongoing consultations with the Friends of Ashbourne Park Group and the Ashbourne branch of the Royal British Legion.
