Supporting winter litter-picks

Your District Council is offering to help local communities contemplating a winter litter-pick.

The District Council can provide sacks, lend out litter pickers and arrange to remove the rubbish at the end of the event.

Community development officer Emma Mortimer said:
"The autumn and winter are ideal times to do clean-ups as the vegetation is dying back, revealing hidden litter.
"We've received a number of enquiries in recent weeks from communities across Derbyshire Dales wanting to arrange litter picks of their area - and we're always delighted to help."

One such community is Matlock Bath, where a band of local residents have carried out two litter picks. The local Holy Trinity Primary School picked up litter around the car parks below the school and then the wider community (pictured) linked up with Paddle Peak to clear litter from the Whistlestop Centre along the river banks and woodland to the Grand Pavilion.

The Matlock Bath group want to carry out regular litter picks and welcome offers of help by email to smallactionstogether@gmail.com

Other litter picks have also taken place this autumn in Wirksworth, Parwich, Brassington and Earl Sterndale.

Anyone wanting to organise a clean up can contact Emma at springclean@derbyshiredales.gov.uk or call 01629 761392.
