Sarah Muzumara is achieving her ambition of getting ahead in business - thanks to free expert advice.
The budding entrepreneur runs Afiovana Hair Couture Ltd, based near Matlock, a manufacturer of specialist handmade human hair wigs and hairpieces using the finest quality human hair for thinning hair, hair loss caused by alopecia and other conditions, or the effects of chemotherapy treatment.
They are an NHS approved supplier, offering services such as wig and hair loss consultations, wig alterations and repairs, men’s hair replacement as well as human and synthetic full head hair wigs.
Sarah has been helped on her journey by the Launchpad Project, part funded by Derbyshire Dales District Council and the European Regional Development Fund, delivered by Growing Rural Enterprise Ltd (GRE).
Sarah, pictured above, was always interested in hair and had made wigs for fun, but she saw a business opportunity, when, while studying at university, she made a bespoke wig for a family friend who had suffered hair loss through chemotherapy treatment.
"I was genuinely surprised how much impact there was on my friend’s self-esteem and confidence and how much difference it made having nice hair again," said Sarah, "and so the idea for a new business venture began."
Currently operating online and offering mobile visits and consultations, the team at Afiovana pride themselves on exceptional quality and service. From the initial consultation to the final product, the main focus is to ensure client satisfaction.
GRE started working with Afiovana in January this year, assisting with a range of issues from website development, printed advertising material, cashflow forecasting and additional income streams, to new methods of marketing.
“I hadn’t realised how my website jumped around all over the place until Julie White from GRE gave me feedback on it and we sat down and really went through the detail.”
The aim is to open a retail unit and Julie White said:
"Sarah is a superb example of someone who has seen a need in the market place and is determined that her business is recognised as trusted and professional for what can be a difficult time in people’s lives.
"It is really heart-warming to see Sarah and all at Afiovana so dedicated to helping people achieve what they want and they are committed to continuing to visit care homes and hospitals free of charge. They are in the process of setting up a ‘wig bank’ where people can send any wigs no longer needed so others may borrow and benefit."
