Your District Council is proud to have once again played its part in this year's Royal Shrovetide Football.
Our teams were on the streets of Ashbourne at 5am on Wednesday to remove around three tons of rubbish after the first day's play between the Up'ards and Down'ards.
The District Council’s Clean & Green Team also removed rubbish from the Recreation Ground so that the town looked spick and span by 9am on day two – and it was another 5am start on Thursday.
It's great to play a behind the scenes role in this fabulous tradition and our Clean & Green team really do go the extra mile to ensure the town looks at its best when it is truly in the national and international spotlight.
The Shrovetide ball was the "guest of honour" at the luncheons - hosted by Ashbourne Leisure Centre for a ninth year - leaving the centre at 1.45pm and paraded to the starting plinth at the District Council's Shaw Croft car park for the 2pm starts.
The District Council also extended the opening hours of its public loos in Ashbourne for both Shrovetide days.
