The second annual Active Workplace Corporate Games event was a big winner at a sunny Cromford Meadows on 17 May.
The spectacle, organised by Derbyshire Dales District Council, proved its pulling power with a full complement of 10 teams testing their skills at five fun sports – tag rugby, netball, seated volleyball, duathlon and an obstacle relay race.
Pitching together workmates in the Derbyshire Dales, mixed teams of between eight and ten colleagues took part, and it was the District Council’s own team – Dales Destroyers – that emerged victorious, beating last year’s winners Cliff College into second place by just one point.
Derbyshire County Council’s Public Health Team came in third and other teams were two from the YHA, two from Careport, and one each from Evolution, McDonald’s and Freedom Leisure.
The event, which featured a bar and barbecue to reward competitors’ exertions, was free to enter for companies that have already signed up to the District Council's Active Workplace Scheme.
A spokesperson for the council's Sports Development team said:
"We are delighted that the 2018 Games built on the success of the inaugural event in September last year.
“It was challenging and competitive, but, more than anything, great fun, as workmates pitched themselves against other companies. Our thanks go to everyone who supported the event and to our excellent hosts, Matlock Rugby Club.”
