The meeting will hear that Corporate Director and Deputy Chief Executive Paul Wilson meets and exceeds the requirements to be appointed as Chief Executive - that’s the recommendation of a Selection Committee made up of six Council Members appointed by Full Council, supported by independent consultants SOLACE (Society of Local Authority Chief Executives) in Business.
Councillors will consider the Committee’s recommendations at what is the council's annual meeting following a rigorous selection process.

If councillors approve the recommendation, Mr Wilson (pictured) will succeed current Chief Executive Dorcas Bunton, who last month announced her decision to retire on 31 May.
Councillors agreed last month that the Selection Committee be appointed to carry out a selection process and that first consideration should be given to one internal candidate – Mr Wilson
A report to the 24 May full council meeting, which will be broadcast , stressed that the new appointment was to be made on merit and SOLACE’s support in design and delivery of the process and their advice to the Selection Committee enabled merit to be demonstrated.
In addition to a series of range of online psychometric tests, interviews and presentations, Mr Wilson had been asked to make a statement on why he considered himself to be suitably fit for the role and complete a written paper on future challenges for the District Council, risks for the Derbyshire Dales and how he might deal with them.
The report concludes:
“The design and delivery of the selection process was very comprehensive. Paul Wilson demonstrated that he met and exceeded the requirements of the person specification, which was rigorously tested. SOLACE advised that his performance benchmarked well in comparison with recently appointed Chief Executive candidates.”
