From Shutts Lane in Bakewell to the Sahara Desert... brothers Richard and Jamie Corbridge are making a name for themselves in the red-hot world of exporting.
Specialising in bespoke farm machinery and parts, the brothers' Shutts Farm Machinery company has just received a boost to help it grow thanks to free business advice from Derbyshire Dales District Council.
Richard and Jamie export to many countries including Sweden, Egypt and Russia and are currently supplying what will be the biggest farm in the world located in the Sahara Desert in Egypt. But they needed a 3000 sq ft steel framed building for storage space and a small office to help improve their customer service.
Also on their wish list was new yard space and a trailer to transport their machinery instead of using haulage contractors.
They contacted Derbyshire Dales Business Advice, whose advisor Heather Bradford helped Richard to submit a successful application for grant funding, which means Shuttts Farm Machinery now has a brand new building on site to store machinery, which also incorporates a modern office facility. The yard has been transformed and the new trailer means this small family firm can transport their machinery.
The expansion of the business means the brothers are now planning to take on two new staff, and Richard said:
"We couldn’t have done it without Heather - her help was absolutely invaluable. I’d recommend trying for grant funding to any small or medium business in the Dales that wants to grow. The Derbyshire Dales Business Advice Service means you are not on your own when completing the application forms, and the specialist advice is freely given."
The business was launched seven years ago when the brothers tried to source a particular piece of farm equipment and had to fly to Finland to meet a supplier. Spotting a gap in the market, Richard and Jamie now source and supply imported high specification specialised farm machinery and parts, mainly from Finland and Italy.
