Operation Illuminate tours rural Ashbourne villages

Op Illuminate Hulland Ward 4 Jul 17Residents in some of the more rural villages surrounding Ashbourne have been learning all about how to protect their property following a crime prevention roadshow.

PCSO Jo Dales and PCSO David Seabridge from the local Safer Neighbourhood policing team spent a day touring the area and meeting residents as part of Operation Illuminate.

They were joined by Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) Hardyl Dhindsa on Sunday, July 23 as they took to the road in the mobile police station and headed to Kirk Ireton, Hulland Ward, Brailsford, Hollington, Shirley and Longford.

As well as offering advice and information, the team offered residents the chance to pick up reduced price security items such as ‘dusk till dawn’ light bulbs, shed alarms and door chimes.

The products have been provided by the Safer Derbyshire Dales Community Safety Partnership, which includes Derbyshire Constabulary and Derbyshire Dales District Council, to help people boost security around their homes.

Discounted home security products are also available to buy from the Derbyshire Dales District Council Leisure Centres in Ashbourne, Bakewell, Wirksworth and the Arc Leisure at Matlock.

PCSO David Seabridge said:

“It was great to meet so many people at the event, and offer them tips on how they can help keep their homes secure. People also had the chance to talk to us and the PCC about local issues which were concerning them.

“We will be holding further Operation Illuminate events later in the year, when we will be visiting other villages in the area, and I hope the tour will continue to be a success.”

Operation Illuminate is set to return to the Ashbourne area on Saturday, October 28 when officers will tour Clifton, Yeaveley, Sudbury, Doveridge, Norbury and Marston.
