Brother and sister business partners Becci and Matt Sampson are the latest local entrepreneurs to benefit from Derbyshire Dales District Council's free business advice service.
Becci and Matt run Fitism, a health and fitness company based at Riverside Business Park in Bakewell - one of 20 local businesses to secure grants worth over £675,000 from Peak LEADER, a grant scheme part funded by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development and Defra.
The grants can pay up to 40% towards capital costs such as new equipment where projects lead to new job creation, and in Fitism's case the cash has helped fund new kitchen facilities, enabling Becci and Matt to develop the food and nutrition side of their business and create 2.5 new jobs.
Fitism were helped through the process by Derbyshire Dales Business Advice, which is part funded by the District Council and European Regional Development Fund and delivered by professional business advisor Heather Bradford. Part of the D2N2 LEP Growth Hub, it provides one to one support to small and medium sized businesses wanting to grow.
"Without Heather’s guidance on funding options we would not have been able to upgrade our kitchen to this level. Foods prepared in our new professional kitchen are now an important part of the service we offer clients in supporting a healthy lifestyle."
It means that in addition to improving fitness in a personal training session or class, clients can now top up on healthy snacks such as granolas, smoothies and soups, all made entirely on the premises.
With a background in personal training, Becci and Matt are delighted to have been given support by Peak LEADER and are now looking to expand their business into other locations.
District Council Chief Executive Dorcas Bunton said:
"Our business advice service continues to offer real practical benefit to local companies. Growing the economy of the Dales is high on our agenda and we want to help businesses create jobs to ensure the Derbyshire Dales continues to be a great place to work as well as live and visit."
