Typical British summer weather couldn't dampen the spirits of the thousands who enjoyed the third annual Eroica Britannia festival in Bakewell at the weekend - and your District Council was delighted to play its part.
After days of heavy rain had turned areas of Bakewell Showground into something resembling a quagmire, we stepped in on Friday to provide dry parking and camping grounds to smooth over some of the opening day issues caused by the weather.
Known as 'The Most Handsome Festival in the World' and celebrating the very best of Great British, the three-day Eroica Britannia provided wonderful family fun with a cracking line up of live music, entertainment, acres of vintage sales, amazing shops and experiences.
Behind the scenes, your District Council helped the organisers plan and deliver a great event for cyclists and spectators that aimed to build on the £3.2m economic impact of the 2015 event. We were also proud to help local businesses get a pitch at the prestigious event in a new "Inspired by the Peak District" marquee featuring companies that are signed up to the "Inspired By" brand.
Visitors were encouraged to get dressed up in their vintage best and the highlight of the three days was the spectacular Eroica Britannia famous pre-1987 bike ride on the Sunday - ridden by 3,000 adventurers in glorious vintage fashions. The riders travelled through the glorious landscapes and villages of The Peak District.
