Derbyshire Dales District Council has apologised for any inconvenience to customers ahead of closing the lower car park at its Arc Leisure Matlock for essential resurfacing works from this coming Monday, 11 January.
Arc's top car park will remain open as usual and the District Council hopes to be able to reopen part of the lower car park by the end of this month, with a final completion date of 8 February.
A District Council spokesperson said:
"The work has been carefully planned to happen at a time when it will be least disruptive to Arc users.
"Both tiers of parking at Arc are constructed using a stone-filled plastic grid on a membrane, built to accommodate the fact that the land below is a former landfill site.
"We always knew these areas would move slightly over time, which is why the car parks cannot be tarmacked.
"The entrance to the lower car park was resurfaced two years ago and the remainder of the surface has now become uneven. We don't want this to potentially become a safety risk to car park users, which is why we're making the improvements now, but the top tier car park remains in good condition."
