As our 2015 Matlock Bath Illuminations season bursts into life this Saturday (12 September), the message to visitors is please plan your journey and give yourself lots of time.
Parking in Matlock Bath itself can be hard to find for visitors who leave it late. Here's more information about Illuminations parking, including a Park & Ride scheme available only on fireworks nights (19 & 26 September and every Saturday in October).
There is limited disabled parking in the Pavilion car park, but please arrive early to avoid disappointment. Do not park on the verges or double yellow lines.
You could let the train take the strain! Trains to Matlock Bath run from Nottingham, Derby and Matlock along the Derwent Valley Line every hour on Saturdays and every two hours on Sundays - and you can save 20% admission to the Illuminations by showing your train tickets at the Derwent Gardens entrance (applies only to tickets bought on the night). Train prices.
Bus service information is available at www.travelineeastmidlands.co.uk
You can save money by booking Illuminations tickets online no later than midnight on the Wednesday before the weekend you want to visit. Alternatively, pay on the night. See our ticket prices.
Once you are inside Derwent Gardens, there's plenty to see and do for all the family including stalls, entertainment from 7pm, a fun fair (a charge is payable) and hot and cold food and drink. Here's more information about the entertainment, led on the opening night by Peak FM and singer Max Restaino.
The famous parade of decorated and illuminated boats happens at around 7.45pm and there's a second parade on fireworks night at 9.15pm. The fireworks show takes place at 9pm on the dates listed above.
