The fact that more people than ever are getting a kick out of the Walking Football craze hit home as a Matlock team became the fourth best in the Midlands.
Now the team, which play at the District Council's Arc Leisure Matlock every Wednesday morning from 10-11am, want to test their status by taking on other local sides.
Matlock Arc took part in a regional Football League Walking Football tournament last Friday (26 June) at Derby's Soccer Dome, organised by Derby County Community Trust.
The day began with a tour of Derby County's IPro Stadium before Arc competed against nine teams from Heanor, Chesterfield Walsall, Nottingham, Coventry, Derby and Shrewsbury.
Matlock Arc were placed second in the group stage, winning two, drawing two and losing one of their five games, before losing 3-1 to Chesterfield in the third place play-off game.
The District Council's Sport and Health Development Officer Becky Bryan, who went along to cheer on the Arc team, said:
"To finish fourth overall in the Midlands was a great achievement, especially as they only began playing in October last year. We'd be delighted to hear from any other teams interested in playing a friendly fixture."
In addition to the Arc Leisure Matlock session, Walking Football is available at the District Council's Ashbourne Leisure Centre and in Baslow and Winster. And a new session kicks off at the District Council's Wirksworth Leisure Centre on Friday 17 July, 10-11am.
