Snow update - 4.30pm Friday

Our popular Bakewell Farmers' Market is all set to go ahead as usual tomorrow (Saturday) together with the regular Ashbourne stall market - and our waste and recycling crews will be working Saturday AND Sunday to continue the catch-up on bins missed because of two days of weather disruptions.

Unless the weather and road conditions deteriorate significantly, Bakewell Farmers' Market is definitely on from 9am to 2pm and our teams have cleared and gritted Ashbourne Market Place in preparation for the regular stall market there.  Meanwhile our four leisure centres in Ashbourne, Bakewell, Matlock and Wirksworth continue their proud record of not missing a single day during all the recent weather disruptions, although some regular classes have had to be cancelled this evening at Wirksworth and Matlock because instructors couldn't make the trip.

Although our bin collection crews worked through the daylight hours today, several thousand residents who usually get waste and recycling collections on a Thursday and Friday will still be waiting due to snow disruption over the past two days.

The big message is please leave out your bins/bags for collection as our teams will be back on the roads tomorrow (Saturday) and some crews on Sunday too in an attempt to catch up, though several side roads are likely to remain inaccessible until we experience a significant thaw.

There's a Met Office yellow warning for ice overnight and the possibility of more snow, especially on higher ground, so it is likely we will have to continue the catch-up next week. Even with extra resources committed to the catch-up, expect an unavoidable knock-on effect on next week's scheduled collections. We'll keep you informed.

Thank you.
