Derbyshire Dales District Council is reviewing some areas which fall under car parking and would like your views on the residents concession permit and the 'Free after 2pm in December' promotion.
Residents Concession Permit Survey
The District Council has for many years offered each household a free permit which currently allows residents to park in any of the Council’s pay & display car parks before 11am and after 4pm. This offer has been running for so long we do not know whether this offer still works for our residents, so we are asking if we were to change the offer, what offers would you like for us to consider.
The car parking service provides a significant source of revenue funding which is of critical importance to the Council’s revenue budget, and assists in supporting the delivery of high quality services to the residents, businesses and visitors of the Derbyshire Dales. In 2021/22, car parking revenue amounted to approximately £2.4 million which represented almost 42% of the Council’s total revenue income from fees and charges. If the Council did not secure income from car parking charges, the District Council's share of Council Tax across the District would have to rise by in the region of 35% to replace lost income. It is therefore critical to the sustainability of the Council’s future financial position that car parking revenue is maintained. Therefore, please be mindful of this when completing the survey below. For example, the Council would not be able to provide free parking for residents at all times.
The areas have been split into the five market towns and all the other car parks fall under the Rural section.

Free After 2pm – December promotion
As part of the Car Park Review, Derbyshire Dales District Council is seeking opinion from businesses on the December, 'Free after 2pm' offer. The promotion was originally brought in to increase footfall after the financial crash in 2008. We have been running this for so long we don’t really know if the offer still provides the impact for which it was intended.
