Wirksworth walks

Walking as part of a small group is a good way to start and keep going. You will make friends, encourage each other and discover new walks in and around your Wirksworth. What you can expect - trained walk leaders, good company with safe routes, and short walks around Wirksworth for beginners.

Our friendly, welcoming walks help people make new friends and get out and about—it's perfect for people who don't fancy intense exercise. You can start off slowly and build up gradually as you get more confident.

Think about it... your legs were made for walking. It's a wonderful form of natural exercise that can put a smile on your face and can even keep you healthy and living longer.

Monday afternoon walks (weekly)

  • Walk leaders: Peter and Roger
  • Walk description: Very steady walk on good terrain with no stiles. If hills are included they are taken very steadily with as many breaks as necessary.
  • Time: 2pm
  • Duration: 60-90 mins,
  • Meeting point: Wirksworth Leisure Centre car park

We walk from the Leisure Centre car park. Each route is planned by the walk leaders before the day, taking into account the weather forecast and conditions underfoot. These walks may take in hills but they will be taken at a very steady pace, stopping for breaks as necessary up the hills and on the walk supporting each other and enjoying being out walking together. This walk is easier than the Wednesday walk.

Wednesday morning walks (weekly)

  • Walk leaders: David
  • Walk description: A longer steady walk at a steady pace. Includes stiles, hills and rougher ground.
  • Time: 9:45am
  • Duration: 1.5 hours - 2.5 hours, about 4 miles or so
  • Meeting point: Wirksworth Leisure Centre car park

We meet in the Leisure Centre car park. Each route is planned by the walk leaders before the day, taking into account the weather forecast and conditions underfoot. Sometimes we car share and starts walks from Alderwasley. Bonsall, Cromford, Brassington, Crich, Kirk Ireton or Carsington. This walk goes up and down hills at a steady pace on the local footpaths, using stiles and enjoying the environment around Wirksworth. Breaks are taken, but this walk is a little less steady than Monday and will walk further for a little more time.
