BSIP work to start - Church Street and Station Road

Junction of Church Street and Station Road Ashbourne

This week, residents and businesses are being informed that work is due to start under the Bus Service Improvement Programme (BSIP) at the junction of Church Street and Station Road. A section of the highway outside Ashbourne Methodist Church is also due to be transformed as part of the highways and public realm project of the Ashbourne Reborn programme. To make the best use of resources the two County Council-led projects are working together to incorporate elements of Ashbourne Reborn in BSIP work at the junction.

BSIP is a government funded initiative to improve bus punctuality and reliability by implementing intelligent traffic signals, which are also intended to ease congestion in the town centre.

The Ashbourne Church Street / Station Road scheme will include new traffic signals at the junction, with pedestrian crossing and cyclist facilities. To incorporate elements of Ashbourne Reborn, the path outside the Cornerstone Coffee House will be widened with the addition of a shared use cycleway and footpath, and new wayfinding signs.

The work is expected to start on Monday 22 April, and will take 12-14 weeks to complete.
