Top award for Tommy

Derbyshire Dales District Council's Democratic Services Team Leader Tommy Shaw received the Rookie of the Year 2022 award from the Association of Democratic Services Officers (ADSO) at our January full council meeting.

Tommy, 25, was presented with the award by Council Leader Councillor Garry Purdy at the start of the meeting.

The former student at Matlock's Highfields School joined the council after gaining a Master’s Degree from Lancaster University.

Councillor Purdy told fellow councillors:

"We have a star in our midst. ADSO is the nationally recognised association for those working in local authority democratic and governance services which represents, promotes and develops excellent democratic services.

"Tommy joined the council in 2021 on a temporary contract to support the elections team and has developed quickly. Following the restructure of the Democratic Services Team last year he was appointed Team Leader."

"I'm sure Members will join me in congratulating Tommy on this excellent achievement."
