Our staff support foodbank charity

Derbyshire Dales District Council staff donated food and raised cash for the local Jigsaw Foodbank charity in the run up to Christmas.

More than £583 was raised through a Christmas grotto, raffle and quiz, and, additionally, 10 large boxes of food and personal items were dropped off at the foodbank, run by the Matlock-based Church in the Peak.

District Council Chief Executive Paul Wilson said:

"I'm really proud of our teams, who go the extra mile every Christmas to support worthy causes. This was another brilliant effort by all concerned. In addition to supporting Jigsaw, staff raised £131 for Save the Children with a Christmas jumper day."

Staff leading the series of Christmas fund raising events were Annie Birds and Debbie Barke (pictured above), Robert Kay, Rebecca Campbell, Susan Devaney, Lis Hudson and the Democratic Services team, who organised a mock election featuring Santa, Olaf, Elf and Rudolph as the candidates.

Over the past 12 months Jigsaw have provided more than 200 “one-off” crisis parcels and supported 264 different households comprising a total of 349 adults and 260 children with regular weekly food parcels. In total, 2,779 food parcels were made available during 2022.
