State funeral day - local arrangements

Derbyshire Dales District Council has announced its plans following the designation by King Charles III that the state funeral day of the late Queen Elizabeth II should be a bank holiday.

The Council's Matlock Town Hall headquarters will be closed on Monday 19 September and the authority will operate only essential services from its Depots to allow as many staff as possible to watch the state funeral.

There will be no bin collections by the Council's contractor Serco on the day of the funeral, which takes place at 11am. Scheduled collections for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday will happen a day later than usual next week. Crews will work later, until 5.30pm, on Thursday and Friday, meaning some Thursday and Friday collections will happen on schedule, while others will still be a day late. Crews will also work on the Saturday morning, 24 September, to complete the week's rounds.

Essential services carried our by our Clean & Green Team that will continue on 19 September include emptying litter bins, operating public toilets and undertaking playground inspections.

Freedom Leisure, which operates our leisure centres in Ashbourne, Bakewell, Matlock and Wirksworth, has announced that all its facilities across the country will be closed on the bank holiday Monday.

The Council's weekly Monday stall market in Bakewell is cancelled on 19 September but Matlock Bath Illuminations, which were cancelled last weekend, go ahead as planned this Saturday and Sunday, September 17 and 18. The Illuminations online booking system, suspended since late last week, is open again at www.derbyshiredales.gov.uk/illuminations

The Council's scheduled Planning Committee this Tuesday, 13 September, will also go ahead with a minute's silence at the start of the meeting to allow councillors, officers and any members of the public attending to pay their respects to the late Queen Elizabeth II.

Anyone who is homeless owing to an emergency situation over the bank holiday or outside office hours can call Derbyshire County Council for advice and assistance - telephone 08456 058 058 or 01629 532600.
