BINS UPDATE | Tuesday rounds

The return to work of union bins staff means that all scheduled domestic waste, recycling and garden waste rounds are operating today (Tuesday 19 October).

Serco also have two catch-up crews going back for any domestic waste missed last week and during the two strike days called by the GMB Union on Friday and yesterday.

However, there are currently no available resources to go back for around 6,000 recycling and garden waste collections missed due to industrial action.

To do so would simply throw all scheduled collections into disarray going forward, resulting in rounds falling further and further behind.

Continued industrial action by the GMB Union through work-to-rule measures means union staff are not currently working overtime, so there is no option to catch up by extending working hours.

We apologise that this creates a recycling backlog for some households and that some garden waste subscribers will miss a collection. We will come back with a plan to address these issues when agreed by all parties.

We continue to urge Serco and the GMB Union to reach a resolution on their dispute as soon as possible to avoid any unnecessary further disruptions to bin collections here in the Derbyshire Dales.
