Three quarters of England's population will be under the toughest Covid rules from Thursday after it emerged that 60% of UK coronavirus cases are now the new, more transmissible, strain of Covid-19.
Being in Tier 4 means we cannot leave or be outside of the place we are living unless we have a reasonable excuse.
Tier 4 households cannot meet other people indoors, including over the Christmas and New Year period, unless you live with them, or they are part of your support bubble.
Anyone needing to travel should stay local – meaning avoiding travelling outside of your village, town or the part of a city where you live – and look to reduce the number of journeys you make overall.
Outdoors, you can only meet one person from another household.
Under Tier 4 rules non-essential shops, beauty salons and hairdressers must close.
