Teamwork creates new pavilion for Ashbourne club

Your District Council has stepped in with partners to create a new pavilion for Ashbourne Park Bowls Club.

An old wooden pavilion at the top of the Council's Ashbourne Recreation Ground, above the Cokayne Avenue car park, has been demolished and replaced with a new, more secure cabin.

The project to demolish the 100 year-old pavilion and replace it with the new one has been funded by the District Council, Derbyshire Dales Council for Voluntary Services and the Bowls Club itself.

The Club's captain, Steve Mainwaring, said:
"The old pavilion was falling down and sadly was targeted on a regular basis by vandals and really did need replacing. The new pavilion is incredibly secure and the council has been really good in helping us with this project. Now we need to improve the green itself as it's really suffered due to extreme weather conditions these past couple of years."

A District Council spokesperson said:
"Our Community Development and Estates departments teamed up to lead the project with the Bowls Club and this is just the start of our commitment to improving facilities at Ashbourne Recreation Ground for local people."
