New Chairman of the District of the Derbyshire Dales

Calver ward member Councillor Helen Froggatt is Derbyshire Dales District Council’s new civic leader.

A district councillor since 2011, she succeeds Councillor Tony Morley as Chairman of the District of the Derbyshire Dales, and will represent the district at engagements in the county in 2020/21.

And Councillor Froggatt, who accepted the civic post at the District Council’s delayed annual meeting last week, told fellow councillors she would endeavour to be a worthy ambassador for the Dales.

She told the “virtual” meeting:

"It is an honour to be given this opportunity and I hope I can fill Councillor Morley's very large shoes. My chosen charity for what is a reduced year in office due to the coronavirus pandemic is the National Hereditary Breast Cancer Helpline, which is a charity close to my heart."

Matlock All Saints ward member Councillor Steve Wain was appointed Deputy Chairman of the District of the Derbyshire Dales.

Other appointments for 2020/21 included Councillor Sue Bull continuing as chairman of the District Council’s Governance & Resources policy committee, and Councillor Chris Furness re-elected as Chairman of the Community & Environment policy committee. The Planning Committee will continue to be chaired by Councillor Jason Atkin.

Councillor Sir Richard Fitzherbert is once again Council Chairman, leading full meetings of the authority, and Deputy Chairman is Councillor Andrew Shirley.
