The development opportunity on Matlock’s Bakewell Road comprises the ground floor market hall, including a rear service bay and covered bus bay area.
Located only 150 metres from Crown Square and the landmark Hall Leys Park, the site benefits from a significant main road frontage adjoining the Matlock M&S Foodhall, with good access to town centre car parking and excellent public transport links.
Steve Capes, Head of Regeneration and Policy at the District Council said:
“The Bakewell Road site represents a key development opportunity for Matlock and supports the Council’s strategic aims to enhance the western entrance to the town centre, increase footfall and dwell time and support the town’s evening economy.
“Through working in partnership and taking account of local views, a range of potential uses including a cinema, retail space, small managed workspace and community/performance space have been identified and access to existing bus service and taxi provision will be retained.”The draft development brief has benefitted from public consultation during November, during which 90.4% of respondents agreed that it would complement the existing town centre offer, and 83.8% agreed that it would help encourage more visitors to the town centre.
