Your District Council has been engaging with local businesses since the floods hit, including encouraging applications to the Derbyshire Floods Business Hardship Fund at www.derbyshire.gov.uk/environment/flooding set up by the County Council.
The business hardship fund includes additional funding from the District Council to help small businesses affected in the Dales.
Now Central Government has announced further support for households and businesses affected by severe flooding – and the District Council will promote the application process when full details are announced.
Under the measures, households and businesses that have been "intensely affected by the flooding" will be eligible for 100% relief on their council tax and business rates for the next three months.
Proposed rate relief is additional to Government funding announced last week for small to medium enterprises with up to 250 employees. Grants in the order of £2,500 are available through the Business Recovery Grant aimed at businesses that have been flooded or directly impacted by flooding. Financial support for farmers is being made available separately.
The Derbyshire Community Foundation is also offering help to small businesses suffering personal hardship as a result of flooding via their website at www.foundationderbyshire.org.
District Council Chief Executive Paul Wilson said:
"We pledged in the immediate aftermath of the floods that we would, as a matter of urgency, examine what support we could provide for those affected - and this work continues.
"We await further information on how the claims process will work for local people and businesses hoping to activate relief on their council tax and business rates, but welcome this additional support for those people most affected by the horrendous flooding in some parts of the Dales.
“With a range of support now on the table, our Economic Development officers can offer advice to businesses needing help in completing the applications process as soon as the details become available.”
A range of support is also available to affected residents, including:
- A one-off payment of £104 through the County Council’s Derbyshire Floods Hardship Fund to help residents who were evacuated or whose homes were flooded. To apply call 01629 533190.
- Derbyshire Community Foundation has been receiving financial donations from members of the public keen to help support Derbyshire communities. A grant of up to £200 is available for households that have been directly affected by the recent floods and applications should be made online to www.foundationderbyshire.org
- Government is also making funding available via the Community Recovery Grant to help communities with their immediate recovery, with up to £500 available for those households that have been directly affected.
