Fireworks spectacular to launch 122nd Illuminations

Fireworks will signal the launch of the 122nd Matlock Bath Illuminations season, which gets underway on Saturday 7 September.

Organised by Derbyshire Dales District Council, the Illuminations will then run every weekend until Sunday 27 October, with the Derwent Gardens and Lovers’ Walks bedecked with colourful lights throughout the season.

A fabulous fireworks finale takes place every Saturday and on the final Sunday, and there will once again be themed Sundays for younger visitors.

Taking centre stage will be the unique parade of decorated and illuminated boats created painstakingly with thousands of lights by member of the Matlock Bath Venetian Boat Builders’ Association.

District Council Leader Councillor Garry Purdy, whose Masson ward includes Matlock Bath, said:
"As a Council we are immensely proud of this fabulous annual tradition dating way back to Queen Victoria’s diamond jubilee in 1897.
“The Illuminations once again attracted well over 100,000 visitors to Matlock Bath last year, extending the tourist season and providing a massive boost to the local economy while costing Derbyshire Dales Council Tax payers absolutely nothing.
“As always, we hope the weather is kind to us throughout the 2019 season to hopefully guarantee excellent visitor numbers again.”

Book online here and please note that the entry charges for Saturdays and Sundays recognise the different levels of entertainment provided on each night.

Visitors who buy tickets in advance online pay £6.50 (£5.50 concessions) for Saturday and £5.50 (£4.50 concessions) for Sunday - £1.50 less than people paying on the night. Entry continues to be free for accompanied under 16s.

It means a family of two adults and two or more under 16s can enjoy a Saturday night out at Matlock Bath Illuminations for just £13 - including a fireworks finale - if they buy in advance.

Advance sales give the District Council improved monitoring of likely crowds and give it the option to designate certain nights "all ticket" if necessary. On-the-night tickets are not guaranteed and will not be available if the event sells out in advance.

From 14 September, a Park and Ride service will operate on Saturdays from 5pm from Cromford Meadows to Matlock Bath Pavilion and there will also be a Saturday shuttle bus service from Matlock Bus Station on October Saturdays.
