New studio, soft play and reception unveiled at Arc

Brand new refurbishments are now up and running at Arc Leisure Matlock, which is operated by Freedom Leisure on behalf of your District Council.

There's a new group exercise studio and soft play for customers to enjoy, plus a new reception hub means that customers can check in for sessions and classes more efficiently.

District Council Leader Councillor Garry Purdy, pictured (left) with Freedom Leisure's Mike Worsnop and our Community Development Manager Becky Bryan, said:
"When the partnership with Freedom Leisure was agreed in August last year together we committed to invest £1.6m to help improve and modernise Arc Leisure Matlock and the three facilities in Ashbourne, Bakewell and Wirksworth.
"The aim was to introduce exciting new opportunities for people of all ages to enjoy, as well as making all the centres more environmentally efficient.
"Following on from recent important eco upgrades to reduce carbon emissions, minimise waste and improve the leisure environment for customers, we're absolutely delighted the fabulous new visitor facilities have been completed on schedule at the Arc."
The new studio means the centre now has two group exercise spaces plus an indoor cycling space, meaning new classes can be added to the weekly timetable, increasing the number of activities on offer.

The large soft play area, one of the largest and best available locally, gives children and families a great fun activity to enjoy, supporting children with being more active, social and having fun. This kind of activity also introduces children to fundamental skills such as balance, coordination and agility, which are important for child development.

Meanwhile, the new reception hub with kiosks allow for improved flow and experience for customers at peak times - crucial with the new additional classes.

Freedom Leisure Centre Manager, Neil Spencer, said:
““We are over the moon with the positive reaction to the new facilities; the studio means many more classes are available and the reception is speeding up check-in, but the star of the show has to be the soft play, which has seen a really steady stream of children since opening and is clearly being thoroughly enjoyed!”
  • Soft play sessions cost from £4.50, with the soft play centre available for private party bookings also. Group exercise classes are available as pay as you go, or as part of great value memberships.
