Are you organised, methodical, confident with technology and, most importantly, good at dealing sensitively with a wide range of people in an official capacity?
If you have those qualities and have some time available in October/November this year, plus a good geographical knowledge of your local area or the Derbyshire Dales as a whole, we’d very much like to talk to you about becoming an Electoral Registration Canvasser.
The annual Electoral Registration Canvass begins in August when we send out forms to every household in the Derbyshire Dales, asking for confirmation or amendment of the details we currently hold on the Electoral Register. Householders have the option to respond electronically or return a completed form.
We send reminders out in September and expect to receive responses from around 29,000 of the 35,000 properties in the district by the beginning of October.
At that point we are required to send a further reminder to non-responding properties and, if necessary, arrange a visit to the property by a canvasser. In practice these two stages are combined and canvassers are asked to visit all the outstanding properties in a designated area.
Canvassers should make at least two attempts to contact the householder and collect the required information. If contact cannot be established then the canvasser will leave the final reminder form and details of how the householder can respond.
Over the past couple of years we have been moving towards the use of electronic tablets to gather information from householders and intend to roll this out further this year.
Our training will provide you with both the knowledge you need to answer most of the queries you will encounter and the technical skills you will need to operate the tablet. You must be prepared to work in the evening and/or at weekends as that is the most likely time to catch people at home. You will be working to a deadline in mid-November for completion of the visits allocated to you so should bear in mind that you may also need to work in inclement weather.
We would like to recruit canvassers from all parts of the District and, if there is sufficient demand, will arrange informal meetings at Bakewell, Matlock and Ashbourne where you can come along and chat to us about the role. We will arrange dates once we know the level of interest.
If you would like to know more please register your interest by calling Chris on 01629 761300 or Julie on 01629 761267 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
We look forward to hearing from you.
