Work starts on 25 June to install a new top quality floor in the sports hall at your District Council's Wirksworth Leisure Centre.
The £67,000 project means the sports hall will be closed until 30 July, but all other parts of the centre, including its fitness suite, will be open as usual.
The District Council is meeting half of the cost of the new floor, which has a 25 year guarantee, and the Anthony Gell School Foundation is contributing £18,500.
Other funders in this partnership project are Gell Friends (£2,000), Anthony Gell School (£2,000), Derbyshire County Council (£8,500), Wirksworth Town Council (£500), Wirksworth Memorial Trust (£1,500) and the Exton Trust (£1,712).
A District Council spokesperson said:
"The centre and the floor are now 18 years old and an inspection requested by regular users, including Anthony Gell School, revealed the old floor was rapidly reaching the end of its life. We are grateful to all of our partners in this project, particularly the Anthony Gell School Foundation, which has worked hard to attract grant funding and support locally.”
Foundation trustee Nick Hodgson said:
"The school and Wirksworth in general will now have the benefit of a top class sports hall with a new floor guaranteed for the next 25 years. All thanks to many local partners who have supported the Foundation in putting a funding package together - it's been a wonderful show of support and commitment typical of the Wirksworth approach.
"The new floor will reflect what school and community users have been seeking in partnership with the District Council."
Working with the school, Town Council and the Community Sports Group, the Foundation secured more than £19,000 towards the project in just a few weeks, and Mr Hodgson added:
"The leisure centre is a wonderful facility for badminton, basketball, netball, table tennis, Jiu-Jitsu, Tae kwon do, indoor hockey, gymnastics, exercise classes, cricket practice nets and community events , including blood donor sessions, colts football presentation evenings, sports and arts awards and orchestral concerts."
