What happens to the food waste you recycle?

VIDEO | Every week our bin teams collect food waste from homes across the Derbyshire Dales. But what actually happens to the waste you put in your kerbside caddies?

In this video we follow the process from food waste being dropped off at Vital Earth in Ashbourne, where it is heated up in vessels using natural microbes. It's then tipped into piles and left to mature for a further 6-8 weeks, developing friendly bacteria.

Watch the video below to see how the process ends. And if you have any food waste questions, check our useful FAQs.
