New business start-up project goes live

A free-to-use support service to help ambitious entrepreneurs set up and run successful new businesses launched in the Derbyshire Dales this week.

The Sheffield City Region (SCR) Launchpad service - delivered locally by Growing Rural Enterprise Ltd on behalf of Derbyshire Dales District Council - helps individuals thinking of starting a business, new businesses registered but not yet trading and businesses trading for up to 24 months who need help with their growth plans.

The overall aim of the service is to increase economic growth and job creation through fostering the development of new businesses able to survive longer term.

For the next two and a half years the service will offer both one-to-one, face-to-face advice as well as a programme of events and workshops to eligible clients across the district. Mentoring support will also be available through the main SCR Launchpad programme.

Julie White, a Director of Growing Rural Enterprise Ltd, commented:

“We’re delighted to be working with the District Council to deliver this important service in the Derbyshire Dales. The advice and support we offer to local people with new business ideas is completely free, and we’re really looking forward to receiving their calls.”

District Council Leader Councillor Lewis Rose OBE added:

“The launch of this service is very welcome in the Derbyshire Dales. It’s vital that local people and businesses in rural areas get the same opportunities for help and support as their urban counterparts.

"Working with our SCR partners the Launchpad provides the opportunity to tailor support services to meet local needs which is important in a rural context. I’m sure the project will receive a lot of interest and look forward to hearing some of the success stories over the coming months.”

  • With ‘match’ funding provided by the District Council, the project is also receiving funding from the European Regional Development Fund, part of the European Structural and Investment Funds Growth Programme 2014-2020. Funding for the Launchpad service has also been provided by the Sheffield City Region Combined Authority. The Launchpad provides one of several business support services available from the SCR Growth Hub.
