Bakewell youngsters invited to free Extreme Wheels sessions

Youngsters in Bakewell will soon be invited to showcase their skills as a mobile skate park comes to town.

The Safer Derbyshire Dales Community Safety Partnership, made up of police and local councils - including Derbyshire Dales - has teamed up to organise a series of free Extreme Wheels Roadshow events.

The sessions are being held every Wednesday evening between 6pm and 8pm at the Bakewell Show office car park. The sessions will run for six weeks, with the first one set to take place on Wednesday, August 17.

Extreme Wheels Roadshows offer the chance for young people to showcase their skills on the mobile skate park or try their hand at other activities run by the company, including body zorbing, a climbing wall, KMX and BMX racing.

Derbyshire Dales District Council Leader Councillor Lewis Rose OBE, who is also Chairman of the Derbyshire Dales Community Safety Partnership, said:

“Proactive partnership campaigns such as the Extreme Wheels sessions help to keep the Derbyshire Dales among the safest places in England to live, work and visit.”

PCSO Hayley Grundy from the Bakewell Safer Neighbourhood Team said:

“The Extreme Wheels Roadshows are a fantastic opportunity for youngsters in the town. It will help to provide them with something to do away from the streets, while trying out a new sport or learning a new skill.

“The sessions are completely free and the first is set to take place later this month at the Agricultural Business Centre. We hope to see you there.”

To take part in the free sessions youngsters need to have a parent or guardian complete a consent form, which are available at the sessions. The minimum age is seven years-old, and under nines must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
