The District Council's rooftop car park above Matlock's new M&S Simply Food store reopens on schedule on Wednesday 4 May.
The car park will be open first thing on Wednesday in good time for M&S opening their doors for the first time at 10am.
Since its closure back in February a three-month programme of improvements has seen the complete resurfacing and remarking of the parking area - part funded by the District Council.
At the same time, the former Co-operative store below has been fitted out by M&S in preparation for tomorrow’s grand opening.
In October last year the District Council opted to retain ownership of the supermarket site and improve the rooftop car park rather than take up an offer to sell the site outright - including the supermarket, existing roof top car park, former bus station and market hall accommodation. Councillors felt there was a financial risk of exchanging a major income stream for a single capital receipt.
Under the new arrangements, a private landlord leases the whole site from the District Council and has divided the former Co-operative store into two to form the new M&S store and an additional unit to open later this year.
The council has retained full control of the rooftop car park, bus station and newly refurbished Market Hall, which re-launches this Friday.
