A world-renowned local firm is the latest business to sign up to a growing campaign that puts the Peak District at the heart of what they produce.
Peak UK of Old Road, Darley Dale, is one of almost 300 businesses to get behind the 'Inspired by the Peak District' brand.
Created in 2014 by Business Peak District and supported by your District Council, Inspired by the Peak District associates successful local firms with a world class location.
Sportsman Pete Astles founded Peak UK in 1990 after identifying a demand from fellow slalom racers for better designed jackets. He borrowed cash from his father, bought a sewing machine, some fabric and foam, and 25 years later Peak UK is one of the world's leading brands of kayaking wear.
"We are located in the heart of the Derbyshire Dales near to the River Derwent at Darley Bridge and three years ago proudly built our very own purpose built factory on the edge of the Peak District National Park. The new premises enabled us to pioneer our production of custom kayaking gear in time for the London 2012 Olympic Games. To top it all, our great friends and team members won gold, silver and bronze medals wearing that gear."
Visiting Peak UK, Business Peak District Chairman Jim Harrison said:
"Pete and his team are a first class example of the growing number of local micro businesses that through a mixture of enterprise, skill and determination have become players on the world business stage.
"We encourage all our members to make use of the Inspired by the Peak District brand and logo, which promotes the location, provides a sense of place, and is a strong brand celebrating this unique place and helping local businesses strengthen their own product."
