Work starts this Wednesday (6 January) to improve Ashbourne's largest car park.
Parts of Shawcroft Car Park, which we operate, will remain open throughout the project, which is expected to take around 11 weeks to complete.
Derbyshire County Council has been commissioned to carry out the scheme, which includes the complete resurfacing of the car park, improved circulation for vehicles and more than 40 additional car parking spaces, including four extra for Blue Badge holders, taking the total number of spaces to 240.
The phased work will include the removal of raised planters, re-positioning of ticket machines and re-lining of spaces.
Signage has been put in place advising motorists to use the District Council's other Ashbourne car parks at busy times, including the leisure centre in Clifton Road, the bus station, former cattle market (Auction Close) and the Market Place on non-market days.
- Work will be paused to ensure Shawcroft will be fully available, as usual, to host the start of Ashbourne's traditional Shrovetide Football on 9 and 10 February. We have involved the Shrovetide Committee in our consultations and have taken their comments on board throughout the planning of these improvements - and we continue to do so. Fencing and site cabins will be removed for the whole of Shrovetide week.
