Your District Council has opted to retain ownership of the supermarket site in Matlock's Bakewell Road and improve the rooftop car park.
The decision comes ahead of M&S leasing the former Co-operative site.
At a special council meeting on Monday (12 October), members decided to reject an offer to buy the site, including the supermarket, existing roof top car park, former bus station and market hall accommodation. Councillors felt there was a financial risk of exchanging a major income stream for a single capital receipt.
But that decision doesn't impact on M&S's intentions.
Monday's meeting also agreed that £270,000 should be set aside to fund repair works to the rooftop car park.
