Derby County Court has granted the District Council a Possession Order in respect of a site in Doveridge currently occupied by Travellers.
The site - earmarked as a burial ground - is maintained and owned by the District Council, and the Judge has deemed that the site should be vacated by 4pm on Wednesday 19 August. The Order is being served today (Thursday 13 August).
Although many of the caravans that moved onto the site originally have now moved on, the Judge in his decision to allow a week for the site to be completely vacated took into account the medical situation currently affecting a member of one particular Traveller family.
The court order prevents the Travellers returning to the site for a period of 12 months.
