Derbyshire Dales District Council is to stage "navigational challenge" events throughout the district during the school summer holidays.
'Xplorer' is an exciting outdoor challenge for the whole family to enjoy and is returning after proving a hit last year. Involving a healthy mix of physical activity and decision making, the 2015 Xplorer events will be staged at Darley Dale's Whitworth Park on 12th August, Hall Leys Park in Matlock on 17th August and Bakewell Recreation Ground on 19th August.
The Xplorer challenges will take place from 1.00pm to 2.30pm and are free to take part in. More information is available online at www.derbyshiredales.gov.uk/xplorer. Meeting places are the bandstands in Bakewell Recreation Ground and Matlock Hall Leys Park and the play area in Whitworth Park.
The District Council is also planning Orienteering events on 26th August and 4th September in Whitworth Park and on 2nd September in Matlock's Hall Leys Park. The sessions will be delivered in partnership with Derwent Valley Orienteers and British Orienteering and will cost just 50p each. Find out more at www.derbyshiredales.gov.uk/orienteering.
Chairman of the District Council's Community & Environment Committee, Councillor Jo Wild said:
"These are terrific family events that everyone can get involved in. No experience of map reading is necessary and the events are perfect for children as they can run around in a safe and friendly environment and will have a great adventure searching for the secret markers"
