Two national campaigns are being combined at our four leisure centres for a week from this Sunday (8 March) to offer a timetable of FREE activities for women.
Celebrating International Women's Day and Sport England's 'This Girl Can' campaign, the offer to non-members includes swimming, climbing taster sessions, dance and a variety of fitness classes from kettlebells and x-bikes to yoga and zumba. View the activities.
Places are limited in some cases and booking is advised by phone or at the reception desks of the District Council's leisure centres in Ashbourne, Bakewell, Matlock and Wirksworth.
Chairman of the District Council's Community Committee, Councillor Jennifer Bower said:
"We are supporting the national drive for women and girls of all ages to increase participation in physical activity. Existing members already understand the benefits of keeping fit and healthy - what this promotion is all about is getting women who don't currently exercise to take first steps towards a new healthy lifestyle."
We are also running an extra special edition of its regular Monday morning Women-Only Ride to celebrate International Women's Day - in conjunction with the Breeze network, Hassop Station Cycle Hire and the Boditrax programme.
Starting from Hassop Station Cycle Hire at 10am, the ride this coming Monday, 9 March, will include a free Boditrax test to give participants more information about their own body, including metabolic rate, muscle percentage, water content and more.
The price of the ride is a discounted £6 for bike hire or free to anyone bringing their own bike.
Councillor Bower added:
"Many of our regulars started cycling only recently and have built up their confidence and fitness riding together as part of this supportive and friendly group. We'd love to see some new faces getting involved. There is always a coffee stop at the end and for many it's the social event of the week, not to be missed."
