We're getting behind Small Business Saturday – are you?

Small Business Saturday UK comes to the Derbyshire Dales this Saturday (6 December) - and we're backing the national campaign to encourage people to shop at independent local shops.

Small Business Saturday UK 2014 LogoAround 94% of Derbyshire Dales businesses employ less than 10 people - so small businesses really are the lifeblood of our local economy!

Taking place on one of the busiest shopping days in the year, the aim of the Small Business Saturday UK campaign is to encourage people to 'Shop Local' and support small businesses in their communities.

For the seventh year, your District Council has introduced free parking after 2pm at our car parks throughout the month of December to boost the local economy.

Shop Local poster Dec 2014We're shouting about this using all our communications channels, and we're right behind the national campaign to support independent businesses by encouraging people to Shop Local this Christmas.

Small Business Saturday coincides with a number of local events in the beautiful Derbyshire Dales, including the annual Matlock Victorian Christmas Market, organised by the Town Council, which we are delighted to host free of charge in our Hall Leys Park.

District Council Leader Councillor Lewis Rose OBE said:

"Our free parking initiative is designed to boost local shops and businesses, not only on Small Business Saturday, but throughout the whole of December.

Cllr Lewis Rose OBE"We're extremely proud of our small business community here in the Derbyshire Dales and make no apology for using all our communications channels to push the Shop Local message at this important time of year for the local economy."
