Attending a committee meeting

The vast majority of meetings are open to the public, although you may be asked to leave the room towards the end if there are confidential items on the agenda.

The public can participate by making statements, asking questions or presenting petitions at the following Committees.

How you can take part

You must let us know that you want to take part by 12 noon on the working day prior to the meeting. To do so, please contact us by one of the following methods;

  • Planning Committee only
  • All other committee meetings (e.g. Council, Community & Environment Committee, Governance & Resources Committee)

  • This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

  • 01629 761133

Your question or statement must be relevant to the services for which the committee is responsible or, at planning, relate to an item on the agenda. Each question or statement must give the name and address of the questioner, the subject matter to which it relates and the identity of the Councillor to whom it is put.

We will ask you to give us an idea of what you are going to say as, particularly if you have a question, it will help us to provide a fully informed response. You will be allowed up to three minutes to make your statement. You can ask up to 3 questions as an individual at Council or committee meetings, or 1 question on behalf of an organisation that you are representing. Please contact the Committee Team for further advice or clarification on what to expect when you attend to ask questions.
