Trains usually operate to Matlock Bath from Derby and Matlock along the Derwent Valley Line every hour Monday to Saturday and every two hours on Sunday. However, members of the RMT and TSSA unions have announced strike action on Saturday 1 October, which means trains will run hourly between Derby and Matlock, but only between 0730 and 1830. If you travel to Matlock Bath by train, show your train ticket at the Derwent Gardens entrance and SAVE £1.50 on admission to the Illuminations on the night, so long as the event hasn't already sold out. The train service is operated by East Midlands Trains, and off-peak return tickets cost £1.20 from Matlock, £5.50 from Belper, £7.10 from Derby and £11.10 from Nottingham.
