Statement of Community Involvement

Consultation on Statement of Community Involvement 2020

23rd November 2020 – 11th January 2021

Section 18 of the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act (2004) (as amended) requires that the District Council prepare a Statement of Community Involvement (SCI).

The purpose of the Statement of Community Involvement is to explain to local communities and stakeholders how they will be involved in the preparation, alteration and review of Local Plans and also in the determination of planning applications. Local planning authorities are also required to set out in the Statement of Community Involvement their policies for giving advice or assistance to neighbourhood planning groups and their policies for involving communities and other interested parties in the preliminary stages of plan making.

The current Statement of Community Involvement was brought into effect in January 2019. During the current unprecedented times associated with the COVID-19 pandemic temporary changes in respect of publicity on planning policy documents and planning applications have been announced by the Government. Whilst elements of the existing Statement of Community Involvement continue to remain up to date, a review of the document has been undertaken and a draft Statement of Community Involvement prepared to reflect the statutory provisions and best practice. The Statement of Community Involvement will be kept under review.
