Local Plan Review

Derbyshire Dales Local Plan Review

Derbyshire Dales District Council, is the local planning authority for that part of its area that sits outside of the Peak District National Park. In December 2017 the Derbyshire Dales Local Plan was formally adopted. It sets out the policies and proposals for the use and development of land for the period 2013-2033. Regulation 10A of The Town and Country Planning (Local Planning) (England) Regulations 2012 (as amended) requires local planning authorities to review Local Plans at least once every five years from their adoption date to ensure that policies remain relevant and effectively address the needs of the local community. To comply with this duty, a review of the Derbyshire Dales Local Plan must be completed by December 2022.

The Local Plan Review will set out the planning framework for the District for the period to 2040 and will cover issues such as; housing provision, the economy, retail and town centres; infrastructure provision and the environment. It will also set out policies by which planning applications will be determined, in addition to allocating land for housing, employment and other uses.

At an extraordinary meeting of Council on 9th November 2020 Members resolved that a review of the adopted Derbyshire Dales Local Plan be undertaken and agreed a timetable for its review. The agenda papers to the meeting of Council on 9th November 2020 can be viewed here.

A review of the Local Plan has been undertaken to identify those parts of the Local Plan where modifications are considered appropriate to ensure compliance with the National Planning Policy Framework, Planning Practice Guidance and reflect local circumstances; evidence; and Council aspirations. A report to Council on 19th January 2021 sets out the work that has been undertaken, advises of those aspects of the Plan that will require modification. The agenda papers to the meeting of Council on 19th January 2022 can be viewed here.

As part of the Local Plan review work has been undertaken to consider the Housing Needs for 2017-2040 and evidence on housing land availability through an update to the Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment. A report to Council on 24th March 2022 will outline the work that has been undertaken in respect of the identification of additional housing sites, and the extent to which those sites are capable of meeting the future housing needs. The report also outlines proposals for future work on the Local Plan. The agenda papers for the meeting to Council on 24th March 2022 can be viewed here.

Evidence Base

To support the development of the new Local Plan and the formulation of planning policies, a sound evidence base is required to underpin the Local Plan Review. The following pieces of work have been undertaken to inform and update the evidence base and are available to view at the following links:

Further updates to the evidence base will be made and uploaded to the website accordingly when available.
