My garden waste

Collections of garden waste restarted from 31 August 2021 for all residents who have subscribed to the garden waste scheme. All garden waste must be contained in the green lid bin or garden waste sacks supplied (for those on a sack collection). Unfortunately side waste cannot be taken.

From 1 April 2021 Derbyshire Dales residents needed to opt in to our new garden waste subscription scheme.

Free garden waste collections ended on 31 March 2021 and we explain the reasons for reluctantly taking this decision in our FAQs.

While we aren’t legally obliged to provide a garden waste collection service, we want to continue to do this for the benefit of the people of the Derbyshire Dales - that’s why we launched the new service from 1 April 2021.

Households that subscribed before 31 January 2021 paid £35 for the year to 31 March 2022  (the equivalent of less than 68p a week). The Early  Bird period has now closed and the subscription price is £50.
  • The easiest, quickest and most secure way to subscribe to the garden waste scheme is by completing this webform.

How does the scheme work?

On joining the garden waste scheme we will send you a tamper-proof bin sticker. A collection calendar will follow by email and your calendar can also be accessed if you have signed up to the My Account feature here on our website.

Your garden waste will be collected fortnightly from the start of April to the end of March the following year.

Leave your current Derbyshire Dales garden bin out on the edge of your property in plain sight by 7am on your collection day and we’ll collect the waste and take it to a local reprocessing facility, where it is turned into compost for farms and gardens.

If you are currently on a sack collection you will receive 126 colour-coded sacks for the year.
