Positive response to our Business Breakfast Meeting

Derbyshire Dales District Council welcomed local business leaders this week to a Chief Executives’ Breakfast Meeting at Matlock Town Hall.

Those attending included business leaders, Combined Authority Mayoral candidates, East Midlands Chamber, Business Peak District, District Council Leader Councillor Steve Flitter, and the Council's Economic Development team. All contributed to an engaging discussion on the current business environment.

The event provided an opportunity to discuss current issues associated with operating a business in the area, including increasing costs, supply chain, exporting, investment, staff retention, skills, recruitment and de-carbonisation.

Chief Executive Paul Wilson said:

"It was great to welcome business representation from across the Derbyshire Dales, including engineering, manufacturing, construction and tourism sectors.

"It was also a pleasure to welcome two of the Mayoral candidates for the forthcoming East Midlands Combined County Authority who positively engaged in discussions.

"Derbyshire Dales District Council is committed to delivering flourishing and sustainable communities for residents and businesses through positive relationships - and our business partners are critical to achieving this objective."

Jo Lloyd, Director of Business Development at Darley Dale based CEM Solutions, said:

"This was a really informative event – lots of food for thought around connectivity and apprentices in particular. It was great to hear from other local businesses and realise that we share similar challenges and frustrations.

"It was also good to hear about the myriad of support that’s available in the Dales, which we were thrilled to benefit from recently through our successful Rural Innovation Grant bid."

Clive Waddington, of archaeologicalresearchservices.com, said:

"It was a very worthwhile meeting convened by Derbyshire Dales, including hearing from two Mayoral candidates. It was great to hear about the unique offerings for doing business in the area including its rich manufacturing history, research and development, stunning landscape to live and work and more."
