Improvements continue at Matlock's Bakewell Road

Work is continuing this week on our partnership scheme to improve the bus station and taxi rank in Matlock's Bakewell Road.

Our contractor will have completed installation of new timber railway sleepers to a new height, with excavation and installation of new kerbs to the border.

They are also carrying out excavation and compacting work to form a temporary regraded surface adjacent to the footpath.

While bus and taxi services will be unaffected by this stage of work, some further closure of the adjacent small Spa Villas car park will be necessary from time to time.

Future action by the District Council will include installation of large windows to create a comfortable waiting area for bus and taxi passengers and new seating. Real time information boards will be incorporated too, together with new street furniture, landscaping, tree planting, lighting and signage.

Derbyshire County Council's role in the partnership project will include extending the bus lay-by, tarmacing the footway between Spa Villas and Ostello Lounge and installing a new bus shelter.

The project is being funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, with contributions from the District and County councils.
