Full house for Bakewell Rd forum

There was a full house in the Council Chamber at County Hall for the open forum on Wednesday evening (27 February) on the future of Matlock's Bakewell Road.
The District Council provided a live Twitter feed on the night for anyone who couldn't attend in person. You can read the posts here.
We'll be setting up online feedback for you very soon, but for now please email any comments on the Bakewell Road project to planning@derbyshiredales.gov.uk
The open forum was chaired by District Council Leader Cllr Lewis Rose OBE and questions from an audience of around 150 were answered by the District Council's Director of Planning & Housing Services Paul Wilson, and Harvey Lay, Associate Director of development company Henry Davidson Developments (HDD).
The big message was that the open forum was only the start of the consultation process - more will follow, including online feedback.
While there was currently no confirmed interest from any potential "anchor tenant" for any future development of Bakewell Road, the public would be consulted again, including if and when a tenant was identified and definitely before any planning application was submitted.
Paul Wilson also stressed that the anchor tenant did not have to be a supermarket and that HDD continued to investigate at their own cost many options, included food and non-food retailers and leisure and recreation operators.
