Be warm, be wise: beat the price rise

Time is running out for Derbyshire Dales householders to beat rising energy prices by claiming subsidies for loft and cavity wall insulation.
Derbyshire Dales District Council's Warmstreets Insulation Scheme offers free insulation to residents simply by calling 0800 043 9569 (0333 577 9569 from a mobile) or online at www.warmstreets.co.uk
Chairman of the District Council's Environment Committee Councillor Steve Bull said:
"Loft and cavity wall insulation are the easiest ways to make homes cheaper to heat.
"Warmstreets' time-limited offer includes free loft insulation for any private household - owned or rented - that currently has none, as well as free cavity wall insulation.
"Households that already have at least 100mm of loft insulation, but less than 150mm, can pay a heavily subsidised price of just £99 to have it topped up to the recommended level.
"Our best advice to Dales residents is hurry. Winter is on the way and government subsidies for insulation will end soon."
Nineteen million households are expected to experience rises in their energy bills as the result of energy suppliers recently raising their prices.
On top of rising bills, the government intends to replace the direct subsidies which currently make insulation free with the Green Deal. Under the Green Deal insulation will no longer be free, but will be paid for through a loan charged to energy bills.
